This book is absolutely packed with info. Extremely valuable reference if you're going into agriculture or engineering that involves siting roads and buildings. I had to get it for a college soils class too, and while it is dry reading, there's really a lot to learn and digest. It's one of the first textbooks I'll be keeping rather than selling back.

According to my professor, this is one of the very best textbooks on this subject. The course has turned out to be life-changing: there is no life on land without soil!

This looseleaf version arrived in perfect condition, well packaged, no dog ears or such. Save some money!

Good overview and introduction to soils.

I bought this for an intro soil science class. I didn't even open it for the class, but it did come in handy as a reference book when I tried to apply some soil science principles to real-world problems later. Over time, we tend to forget things. So it was very useful to keep this textbook so that I could go look up some basic soil science that I forgot over the summer. It's pretty well organized and easy to understand, as long as you got a B or better in a general chemistry class first.

Picked this up last night "for my kid" *cough* (we don't have kids).

It's wonderful. Very imaginative and fleshes out the Jakku sequence of The Force Awakens tremendously. If you liked this part of the film (and I *loved* that part of the film), this is a nice counterpart. There's enough back story in this little volume to support an entire saga of spin-offs. Highly recommended.

Rey's Scrapbook

The book is told in first person by Rey with her perspective/knowledge of the lay of the land on Jakku including the artifacts, residents, creatures, various ships that crash landed on the planet, and how to survive the hostile planet. The text tries to mimic Rey's handwriting as well as additions of sketches of her own drawings and taped on documents. It's a great replica journal as seen in collector's edition of video games (Halo and Mass Effect for example)

Aside from the intro and Addendum, this is not a linear story, so you have the freedom to jump around as you like within the book. There's a lot cannon material (book licensed by Disney, Trademarked by Lucasfilms LTD) that don't appear in the movie throughout. At the end of the survival guide there's a addendum section where picks off events from the movie from when she picks up BB-8 to just right before she lands in Takodana where she meets Maz, an old friend of Chewie

There are 4 fold pages within the book making it more of an immersive experience as well as expand the schematics shown within the book such as the At-At or Imperial Star Destroyer for example

Wished there was a variant cover which resembles more of a an actual replica journal. I guess the marketing team want to plaster a lot of movie graphics on the front and back cover so it's more appealing/eye-catching on store shelves. Which may have a lot of kids who are fans of Rey grabbing it off the selves, but may be glanced over by the older crowd wanting more backstory.

Enjoyable read if you want a more in depth look into Rey's character and experiences. Great hidden gem, a must buy for Star Wars fans

Great Reference Guide

My 8 year old loved the prequel book, A Queen's Diary. I initially assumed this book would be similar. It's not, at all. As an avid Star Wars fan for life, I found that *I* loved reading this book, which is more like a reference guide than a journal. It offered a lot of insights that the movie left out about Jakku. I would recommend this book for true Star Wars fans who want to learn about the world Rey lives in, including LOTS of details about Star Wars spacecrafts and clues about Rey's past. I would not recommend the book for children who are not already madly in love with Star Wars.

amazing insight and biblically sound

this is an amazing book for all singles, and even marrieds because mary gives valuable truth and insight into how we all relate to one another. the mistakes she discusses are all correct, I think, and she offers her own candid, open and insightful look at how we are to respond to these mistakes and carry on in our lives in a joyful, contented way as Christ would enable us, if we allow him to do His work in our lives. I found it very encouraging, and insightful and also very personal because I feel like I can relate to Mary, or better yet, that she can relate to me, as she writes the book in a very honest way. Her writing is very touching and it will spur you on to give thanks to God for all he has done and will do in your life-- and to continue trusting God, even when it is difficult. It is a wonderful book that I recommend highly.

Amazingly simple, and Tremendously Honest

I have been aware of Mary Whelchel's ministry for more than 20 years. She and I are actually very good friends. We are part of the same local church, The Moody Church, here in Chicago. She addresses issues that far too many pastors (and others) are afraid to bring up, for fear of "offending someone." Mary takes the chance, and succeeds at transparency, honesty, and integrity.

Each of the twelve chapters spoke deeply to my experience as a single man, a Christian believer, and an adult. This book is tremendous. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Obsolete -- too general to be useful...

This book was written about 8 years ago, at the height of the "embrace your singleness, it's God's gift to you" era. The writer, who has a grown daughter who is married, has no idea about the challenges facing young, marriage-minded, single Christian women today. Her observations and suggestions, (such as not appearing too eager) are so general that they are likely to insult the average reader. She frowns on those who dare to talk about the shortage of men in their church communities, as if you're just supposed to turn a blind eye to these issues rather than work to do something about them. Fortunately, there have been better books that have come out over the past few years that tackle these issues head on, such as Getting Serious about Getting Married: Rethinking the Gift of Singleness, by Debbie Maken, and Get Married: What Women Can Do To Help it Happen, by Candice Watters. Don't bother wasting your money on this one.

Wow -- A Banquet of Words and Passion

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book. It was shown in a Goodreads list of historical fiction (my favorite genre) so I picked it up. Primarily, it is about two young men during the time of Ireland's Easter Rebellion. The first fifty or so pages were thick with dialect and somewhat choppy, POV-driven narrative. I worried that I would never pick up the rhythm. As different characters were introduced and relationships began to develop, Jamie O'Neill's facility with language (English, Latin, French) became intoxicating. The sexual tension among the three main male characters fascinated me. I have never read a book about gay men before, so this was a baptism. I felt immersed in it, dashed with the cold sea water in which the two younger boys swam. I read with fascination as they discovered how different they were from everyone else--and yet how much they identified with everyone Irish. The character of the dominant father, Jim Mack, was a little bit too pathetic for me, but the whole story was loaded with pathos, so it was all right. I thought the climax of the story was well done -- I was expecting a horrendous bloodbath, and while it was tragic, it was not brutal, ridiculous, or sensational. Overall, it was a lyrical, graceful story, full of the passion that is Ireland, really beautiful in sections, and it gave me a comprehension I had previously lacked.

a love story at its core

At its core, this is a love story. Two 16 year old boys, a college boy, Jim Mack and a laborer, Doyler Doyle, make a pact to practice swimming for a year so on Easter of 1916 (unknowingly to them a time of the Easter Rising and Irish rebellion), they will swim to a beacon of Muglins Rock. As their friendship develops, so do other, deeper feelings. But it is also much more than a love story. Mr. Mack, Jim's father, is a corner shopkeep who has dreams of going up in society. He also has a history (military and broken friendship) with Doyler's father. Eve MacMurrough is a woman ahead of her time, tough and revolutionary. Anthony MacMurrough is a deviant who doesn't have a purpose in life. Their stories, and that of so many more characters, collide when Irish nationalism, sexual orientation, Catholic guilt, alcoholism, class identity, socialism, wars, unwed pregnancy, unionism, and loyalty push and pull them in directions they couldn't imagine.

I read this book twice. At first, I thought I was going to give up because of the language. It is a hard read, the author writes in first person, stream of consciousness and uses an Irish dialect and slang. But the more I read, the easier it became (also one of the reasons I re-read it, I missed so much at first before I became used to the writing). The author weaves so much into the story, rich with symbolism and foreshadowing, that every single word on the page matters. The language transformed me into the moment, as if what I was reading on the page was actually happening around me, his use of imagery was vivid and alive. The author also weaves story lines like an expert (and tackles many really hard topics), the fully formed characters with their own motivations and flaws interact with each other and the world at large while being pushed and pulled in unexpected ways. Some of the characters are even predatory or cruel, but have redeeming qualities which adds to their realism. This book also made me cry, the harshness of life during that era is a constant presence throughout the story. This isn't a read for everyone, it is difficult and requires patience, but for those that can persevere, it is a gem, a literary work that is completely beautiful and moving while being gritty and realistic. And the love story between Jim and Doyler is so innocent and awkward and moving, I fell in love with the boys myself.

There's a good description of place and time and where else would there be lulls in fighting for the Angelus?

Doyler watching Jim undress says he is scrawny and nerves `make him poke up'. Water tracked the hair of his legs, he had a lithe and tanned body and calls Jim a little molly. `A chuck on the chin is worth two kisses, they say'

The chaplain speaks of the horned beast, `direct not you eyes at naked flesh...a standing dick has no conscience.'

Scrotes brought MacMurrough's shaft to his lips, `like egg gone off'. Congratulate yourself on ability to prostitute them but are ashamed of the desire. The carpenter talks about comrade love.

MacMurrough `they undress with their tail to you and flourish manhood at the end, not realising you're as keen on their behind as their front.' The monks police friendship and effect sexual abandon - instead of fumbling with love we fumble in the dark. The joy of knees touching.

Kettle talks of Roger Casement, the Irish protestant, tempting us to become traitors. Parnell and Wilde were the two great scandals of the age, both Irish.

Jim's father was notorious for never inquiring directions.

Jim's brother tells him it is OK as he has seen all in the army and that it is `going without that will drive you doolally'

Jim goes to confession but the priest assumes it is a girl and the `he' is someone who organised it so Jim assumes it is the worst sin as it is not known about - a thorn in Our Lady's heart.

Father Taylor speaks of `Wild Geese who choose to serve in exile than suffer the alien yoke at home'. Wilde's speech from the dock defied to the heavens - eulogium, on illicit live that dare not speak its name

Aunt Eva says that the English behaved unforgivably with that man. He had wife and children and was not just single issue. As for that other buffoom Queensbury......

Save your money!

I like cookbooks with corresponding photos. This one has very few, except pics of people from the show. The recipes are mostly good, some have so many ingredients, they are not doable for the average cook. It's an "okay" cookbook. (I am a cookbook junkie)!!
